Ruins in Belize

Archaeological sites are found all over Belize, in the jungles that were once inhabited by ancient Mayans. There is a neverending trail of artifacts and clues to ancient history to be found in the dense rain forests found inland in Belize. Ancient cities and temples are scattered all over the jungles, buried by time and slowly being unearthed by volunteers working with scientists. The Mayans are incredible impressive, even by today's standards of technology and civilization. Their majestic culture can be felt by visiting some of the ruins on a tour, which is a feature of many Belize vacations. Don't miss this unforgettable side of Belize vacations while visiting!

Water Sports in Belize

Belize faces the Caribbean Sea, and is just a few miles from a gigantic coral reef. That means scuba and snorkeling, not to mention sport fishing, are incredible here. The joys of the ocean stretch for 175 miles of coastal and offshore waters facing the country of Belize.

If you want to see something truly amazing, go to Punta Placencia, where boats take snorkelers and divers out to see whale sharks. This occurs from April to June. Whale sharks are incredible, with up to 300 rows of teeth and a mouth that opens so wide it seems some boats could be swallowed whole! Don't worry, whale sharks are gentle and playful and can hang around visitors for hours, curious but not agressive. Not all Belize vacations include such a trip, because not everyone is ready fo this but if you are interested find out more at your hotel or hostel and book a trip.

Road Trips

If you take the Northern Highway out of Belize City you'll be on your way to the border with Mexico to the north. It's 90 miles to the border and on the way you will discover a Mennonite community, archaeological ruins, Corozal and Orange Walk, bird watching, and boat trips for fishing on the New River. That's quite a day!
