Belize Wildlife
For many visitors to Belize, the best thing is the Belize wildlife and the abundance of tropical forests. As a rule, these forests house a wonderful array of Belize wildlife and wider diversity of species found in more temperate zone forests of North America or Europe. The amazing amount of tree species alone is enough to exite even the casual traveler, and the range of species supported by these forests make Belize wildlfe one of the biggest tourism draws. Visitors to Belize just can't help noticing and appreciating the magnificent arrey of Belize wildlife across this tiny country.
HabitatsThe wildlife in Belize makes its home in trees and plants that just aren't found in temperate zones. The forests down here are easily recognizable to almost anyone, however. By just observing the forests in Belize, you'll notice that the trunks are very very straight. They don't branch out until very high up in the canopy. In more northen forests, trees branch out much lower on their trunks. The top layer of Belize forests overlap their crowns and shade the trees below, making a canopy. Belize wildlife travels on this canopy. The crowns of the trees have a short, broad structure, which makes them strong enough to support the Belize wildlife that travels across.Under the canopy, the Belize plantlife is layered. This is called stratification. The Belize plants in this layered area of the forest can be classified into sections as follows:
- Low shrubs
- ground cover
- canopy
- short trees
The CanopyIn the canopy there is the subcanopy and there is the understory. In each and every one of these tropical forest layers live the amazing and wonderful array of Belize wildlife.
